These pine nuts can be used in both sweet and savoury recipes. For baking and traditional pesto use straight from the packet for the mild, creamy flavour they are known for.

For a richer nuttiness, the kernels can be lightly toasted in a dry pan. They are used toasted for garnishing salads, pasta, and fish.

Once toasted pine nuts can work equally well when sprinkled over cheesecakes, vanilla ice-cream and fruits such as peaches and oranges.

Toss toasted pine kernels with steamed green beans and peas in a knob of butter, and season for a great vegetable accompaniment.

Pine kernels are a natural source of fibre and are a source of vitamin E and the essential minerals, magnesium and phosphorous.
